Following the success of Mr. & Mrs. Mahi, Rajkummar Rao is gearing up to join forces once again with Dharma Productions for an exciting new project.
As reported by Peeping moon, Rao is in advanced talks to headline a Quirky-thriller directed by Sandeep Modi, the visionary behind acclaimed series like Aarya and The Night Manager.
Rao fresh from the decent success of Bhool Chuk Maaf is known for his versatility and risk taking but is this new film a step forward or just another formula of mixing genres and quirkiness.
Sandeep Modi who has directed web hits like Aarya and The Night Manager is making his Hindi film debut with this film. His web work has been well received but the transition to big screen storytelling is never smooth.
Modi’s earlier Dharma project with Kartik Aaryan was shelved due to budget issues which is a big indicator of the unpredictability and financial caution in the industry.
Dharma is willing to back a “quirky thriller” which is good but Bollywood’s recent track record with experimental thrillers has been mixed at best. The real test will be whether this film can balance its comedy, suspense and drama without becoming a mess.
With Rao’s busy schedule and the film still in pre-production it remains to be seen if this collaboration will really break new ground or just add to the long list of Bollywood’s ambitious but forgettable experiments.
