The trailer of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana was released a few days ago. It received mixed reviews for a lot of reasons. However, the movie has now landed itself in new trouble.
As per the latest update, President of Shri Ramlila Mahasangh, Arjun Kumar, has issued a letter to the makers. He is asking the producers to organize a special screening before the movie makes its way to the big screen for the general audience.
The organization is asking for the screening as it wants to check that there is nothing in the film that hurts religious sentiments, adding that there will be protests if their request is not fulfilled. Arjun said that the screening should also be done for the members of the Ramlila Mahasangh along with Ramlila committees and the Hindu organizations in Delhi.
Arjun said in an interview that Ranbir Kapoor appears weak as he plays Lord Ram. The letter referred to the time when Adipurush was arriving in theatres, saying that they organized a promotional event. However, the film had objectionable content. The letter says that the group is ready to promote Nitesh Tiwari’s film, including free screenings.
The group also stated that scenes similar to Adipurush must be avoided. Arjun even stated that Ranbir does not resemble the image of Lord Ram. He even called the trailer underwhelming at the same time.
Notably, netizens supported the move, saying that the makers have a habit of adding controversial scenes to ensure that the movie is promoted without events and people buy tickets to watch it. They stated that the group’s request was a major initiative in stopping such practices.
On the other hand, Ranbir Kapoor’s fans and the movie’s supporters started defending. They questioned why the protest threats were not made by the same group when Adipurush hurt religious sentiments in 2023.
Some even alleged that the group’s actions after the release of Adipurush prove that the letter is a way for them to get attention by using the name of the film and Ranbir Kapoor at the same time. They stated that if the group genuinely cared about religious sentiments, Adipurush would not have been released at all, or it would have been removed from the theatres right after the criticism posts started going viral on the first day.
The makers of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana have not addressed the matter from their side so far. It remains to be seen whether they will fulfil the requests of the group or resolve the matter in a different way.
