Shahid Kapoor’s ambitious historical biopic on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has been officially put on hold even before production could begin!
Yes, the confirmation comes from OMG 2 director Amit Rai, who revealed the development in a recent interview with Mid-Day. Rai didn’t just stop at confirming the project’s pause but also openly criticised the systemic issues plaguing the film industry.
Calling the system “cruel,” Rai expressed frustration, saying, “Even making a ₹180 crore film like OMG 2 is not enough to prove your capability.”
The stalled Shivaji biopic marks a missed blockbuster opportunity for Shahid, who was set to star under Amit’s direction.
The filmmaker further shared that actor Pankaj Tripathi, also from OMG 2, will be part of his next project, and Akshay Kumar had shown interest too.
However, he lamented the industry’s lack of support for socially relevant films, and said, “Most actors prefer love stories over films that reflect social truths.”
Meanwhile, Shahid Kapoor is busy shooting for Vishal Bhardwaj’s upcoming film.
