Deepika Padukone was in the news a few weeks ago when she took her stance regarding the 8-hour work shift. Well, it did cost her a film, which is Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit.
However, several other celebrities came out in support of the actress after her demands went viral. The latest to join the bandwagon is Kritika Kamra.
Calling it a reasonable demand, the actress shared that a lot of male stars do not even do an 8-hour shift, adding that it is a sort of ‘privilege’ for them.
When asked if the same issue is in the TV industry, Kritika opened up that though there are rules regarding work hours, no one follows them.
She said, “How can you shoot 5 episodes if your leads are not working 12 hours a day.”
Kritika also added that she has also worked for endless hours without a break. She went on to call the entire system quite exploitative.
Standing strong with Deepika’s opinion, the actress also added that if a male star would have given the same statement, it would not have made such hype.
Earlier, several others like Ajay Devgn, Mani Ratnam, Neha Dhupia, Surveen Chawla, and more also came out in support of Deepika Padukone’s 8-hour shift demand.
When an A-list actress like Deepika demands a fair work environment and is penalized for it, it raises serious questions about gender bias and outdated industry norms.
It’s high time the industry standardised humane working hours for everyone involved. Respecting work-life balance should not be seen as a luxury, but as a basic right.
