While love stories are the current trend in Bollywood, it seems like biopics might become its next big obsession in the coming months, as several such projects are reportedly in the works.
Rajkummar Rao is set to star in a biopic about the renowned public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam. On the other hand, Aamir Khan is reuniting with Rajkumar Hirani after a long gap to create a biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian cinema.
Umesh Shukla, whose directorials include Oh My God and 102 Not Out, recently revealed that he is working on a biopic on Mohammed Rafi.
The director said that the script has been completed and he is now searching for an actor who can convincingly portray the legendary singer and do justice to his brilliance.
Umesh, whose next film Heer Express is set to release on August 8, also revealed that he plans to use original Rafi songs in the biopic.
Before this, Umesh was working on a biopic on Kishore Kumar, which remains in limbo due to the singer’s family not granting permission to access content about his life.
Anurag Basu has shown interest in directing the project. Initially, Ranbir Kapoor was linked to the role, and in recent months, Aamir Khan has also been considered. However, nothing has been confirmed yet.
For those unaware, Mohammed Rafi was one of the greatest playback singers in India, lending his voice to timeless classics like Likhe Jo Khat Tujhe, Aaj Mausam Bada Beimaan Hai, and Khoya Khoya Chand.
His brilliance is unmatched, and making a biopic about him is undeniably going to be quite challenging.
The first and most crucial hurdle would be finding an actor capable of doing justice to the legendary singer’s life and legacy.
Fans are eagerly waiting to see who will play Rafi and how his incredible story will be brought to life on screen.
