Amar Kaushik, the filmmaker behind the Maddock supernatural universe, has finally spoken about Varun Dhawan’s much-discussed cameo as Bhediya in Thamma. His comments have sparked new excitement about the long-awaited sequel to Bhediya (2022).
Amar revealed that the team deliberately designed this version of Bhediya to look “bigger and khunkhar,” marking the expansion of Maddock’s growing horror-comedy universe. He explained that the original Bhediya was kept grounded to fit its forest-conservation theme, but this new phase demanded a more powerful version.
“Our universe is expanding; Bhediya can’t remain just another beast,” Amar said, explaining that the upgrade connects Thamma, Stree 2, and the upcoming Betaal storyline. The new version of Bhediya, he added, is key to setting up the chain of events across all films.
He also revealed that the transformation scene, especially the apparel shop sequence, surprised even Bhediya’s own character and helped lay the groundwork for a potential face-off between Bhediya and Betaal in future instalments.
However, the biggest takeaway was Varun Dhawan’s enthusiasm for the sequel. “He’s very happy and putting pressure on me to make Bhediya 2 soon!” Amar Kaushik said with a laugh.
While fans are eager for updates, the director made it clear that the film will move forward only when the team feels confident about the script. Still, Amar assured that “it won’t take much time now,” giving fans fresh hope that Bhediya 2 is closer than ever.
With Thamma marking another successful crossover in Maddock’s horror-comedy world, Bhediya 2 could become the studio’s biggest and most-awaited instalment yet.
