Bollywood’s habit of jumping from one unfinished project to another is on full display with Varun Dhawan and Dinesh Vijan’s latest moves.
Instead of completing the Bhediya franchise—something we actually expected—the duo is abandoning it for a new mythological horror-comedy. Let’s not forget Bhediya was a good film but failed at the box office in 2022 and got overshadowed by Drishyam 2.
Clearly the audience didn’t connect with it and now Bhediya 2 is being pushed aside and it’s obvious there’s no faith in the sequel. This isn’t a new direction; it’s running away from unfinished business.
Instead of fixing what didn’t work or giving closure to the Bhediya story Varun and Dinesh are chasing a new trend maybe hoping lightning will strike elsewhere.
But Bollywood’s real problem is this lack of commitment—franchises are left incomplete and actors jump from one genre to another without learning from their mistakes. Varun Dhawan’s career isn’t exactly soaring after the Baby John disaster.
Instead of experimenting for the sake of it maybe it’s time to focus on good storytelling and seeing projects through.
Bollywood needs to be consistent and courageous to finish what it starts not just endless diversions and half baked risks.
