VD Ruining Salman Khan’s Iconic Chunari Song?

Varun Dhawan Salman Khan Chunnari Song

Bollywood’s obsession with remaking its own classics has hit a new low and fans aren’t having it.

The latest furore is around Varun Dhawan’s upcoming film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai directed by his father David Dhawan and starring Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde.

The controversy? A leaked video shows Varun, Pooja and Mrunal recreating the iconic “Chunari Chunari” song from the 1999 hit Biwi No 1 which was originally picturised on Salman Khan and Sushmita Sen.

The internet especially Salman fans are furious with many saying “Varun Dhawan, ruk jaa bhai” and accusing the new team of spoiling a classic. There’s genuine concern that Bollywood has run out of fresh ideas.

Instead of creating new hits they are banking on nostalgia and recycling old songs hoping to cash in on the popularity of yesteryear blockbusters. While the new film promises “romance, chaos and classic Bollywood with a modern twist” fans aren’t convinced this formula works anymore.

The cast may be energetic and the production grand but without originality the magic just doesn’t translate. Bollywood needs to realise that simply remixing old tunes and casting popular faces isn’t enough.

Audiences want creativity not just nostalgia. If they don’t listen more fans will be saying “please stop ruining our favourites.”
