Romantic Comedy’s Non Stop Box Office Triumph

Anyone-But-You

At the very end of the winter season, who doesn’t like a perfect “Enemies to Lovers” trope?
Certain movies manage to captivate audiences and leave an indelible mark on the Box Office. “Anyone But You,” starring the dynamic duo of Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell, has emerged as a box office success. The movie grossed $200M at the global Box office.

Sydney Sweeney, known for her standout performances in projects like “Euphoria” and “The White Lotus,” delivers a compelling portrayal of a young woman who is discovering the complexities of life and is trying to cope up with her academic pressure.
Glen Powell, celebrated for his charismatic roles in films like “Set It Up” and “Top Gun: Maverick,” plays the role of a guy, who carries a bit of a tricky personality.

The Plot focuses on two strangers who meet each other in a cafe and hit off an instant connection, from that point creating a bond with each other but as the next morning hits, they both ended up hurting each other. Months later they meet again, because Sweeney’s sister and Powell’s friend are getting married. And they have to stay sane for a whole “WEEK”.

The movie is very much driven by the “Male Gaze”, and the stereotypical , “Enemies to Lover” genre. The twists are very predictable and the acting was not top notch, along with the poor cinematography . The on-screen chemistry between Sweeney and Powell has been a major driving force behind the film’s success. Audiences have praised their ability to bring authenticity to their characters, making the romantic narrative of “Anyone But You” both relatable and emotionally resonant. Although critics have said that, the movie is unable to utilise both Sweeney and Powell, to their full potential.

The reason behind the movie receiving so much applause, can be attributed to its well-crafted storyline , engaging screenplay and The marketing strategy. The film’s promotional campaign cleverly leveraged the popularity of its lead actors, utilising their strong social media presence to generate buzz.

With all the adversities, I think sometimes we should embrace rom -coms like “Anyone But You”. For the sheer Joy and laughter. “Anyone But You” not only marks a milestone in the careers of Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell but also reaffirms the power of a well-crafted romantic drama to capture the hearts of audiences.
