To everyone’s surprise, Warner Bros. Discovery has recently taken a $115 million write-down on undisclosed projects. This has raised concerns regarding the destiny of the animated film ‘Coyote vs. Acme.’ The movie, which was initially cancelled in November, received a temporary let off after a social media outcry from filmmakers.
Friday’s earnings report, though, brought no definitive news about the film’s future, but troubling signs did emerge as Warner Bros. Discovery mentioned the $115 million write-down in its strategic realignment plan for the Warner Bros. Pictures Animation group. The fate of ‘Coyote vs. Acme,’ which is a $70 million film, is still uncertain.
This move is following Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav’s previous cancellation of projects for tax write-offs, causing controversy within the creative community.
The film, featuring Will Forte, John Cena, and Lana Condor, is a blend of live-action and CG animation with classic Looney Tunes character Wile E. Coyote.
In response to the situation, voice actor Eric Bauza stated, “The fight to release ‘Coyote Vs ACME’ goes far beyond saving a great movie. We are trying to preserve the integrity & importance of these iconic legacy characters while protecting the creative process of storytelling altogether.”
Amidst the efforts to save ‘Coyote vs. Acme,’ comments on social media express frustration with Warner Bros.’ Some fans criticized the company’s financial strategies, while others seeked for the immediate release of the film.
The viewers are expressing a mixture of skepticism and disappointment, while accusing the company of money laundering and claiming that Warner Bros. is prioritizing financial gains over creative storytelling.
