Dull BO Weekend or Will Content Surprise Over Hype?

This week’s new box office film releases

This week’s box office race looks rather dull, but it can still turn interesting because several films are competing without the presence of big stars or hype. The fight is mainly between content driven movies.

Allari Naresh’s new film, 12 A Railway Colony, is the one with the most awareness among the audience. The promotions were decent. Naresh has rarely acted in a crime thriller. He moved away from comedy once again and has experimented with the crime thriller genre. This time director Polimera Dr. Anil Vishwanath provided the story. Nani Kasaragadda is making his directorial debut. The trailer looked intriguing hinting at a tight screenplay. The team has promised a gripping narrative. Kamakshi Bhaskarla plays the female lead. We have to see how engaging it turns out to be.

Priyadarshi and Anandhi’s Premante is also trying to attract attention through novel promotions. Anchor Suma’s special role as a police officer is touted to be a highlight. This film marks the directorial debut of Navaneeth Sriram. It is backed by Asian Cinemas. Because of that, acquiring shows and screens will not be a problem. The film now needs good word of mouth to work. Priyadarshi, who faced heavy backlash for Mithra Mandali, avoided giving loud statements this time.

Another small film, Raju Weds Rambai, is coming this week. The makers are putting all their efforts into social media to create buzz. Most of the cast members are newcomers. Reports about the climax leaking and the popularity of the title song helped the film gain some attention. The film is directed by Saailu Kaampati. We have to see if the social media buzz turns out to be true.

Arjun and Aishwarya Rajesh’s Mufti Police is also releasing this week. It is directed by Dinesh Lakshmanan. The team claims that this dubbed film still carries fresh shocking elements. There is not much awareness about this film in the original Tamil version. So, expecting box office collections in Telugu would be overly optimistic.

Chiranjeevi’s 1990 film Kodamasimham is also getting a re-release. The film was a flop when it released in the 90s. Over the years, it developed a cult following. We have to see how many fans come to theatres to watch it now.

Along with these, the Bollywood film 120 Bahadur has positive buzz as an authentic war film. However, its box office prospects still look doubtful. With last Friday’s releases nearing the end of their theatrical run, these new films have a good chance to perform well.

In the end, the movies that impress the audience with solid content will emerge as winners.
