Allu Arjun and Lokesh Kanagaraj’s much-awaited AA23 is already creating huge buzz, and now an interesting rumor has caught everyone’s attention. According to industry reports, the film will not have a heroine. If true, it would be a bold and risky move.
Romance and songs have always been an important part of mainstream Telugu cinema, especially in Allu Arjun’s films. In fact, the heroines played important roles in his recent blockbusters. In Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, Pooja Hegde had a sizzling screen presence and shared excellent chemistry with Allu Arjun. In Pushpa, Rashmika Mandanna’s Srivalli became one of the film’s biggest highlights, and her chemistry with Allu Arjun was widely loved by audiences.
Interestingly, Allu Arjun‘s next film, Raaka, directed by Atlee, is expected to feature multiple leading ladies, with names like Deepika Padukone, Rashmika Mandanna, Mrunal Thakur, and Janhvi Kapoor reportedly being cast.
Lokesh Kanagaraj, however, seems to be taking the opposite approach. He has already proved that he can make blockbuster commercial films without a traditional heroine.
Both Kaithi and Vikram had little or no romance. Instead, they focused on the story, action, and emotional drama. Both films became huge hits, proving that audiences are ready to accept commercial entertainers without a conventional love story.
If the latest reports are true, AA23 will rely completely on its action, characters, and storytelling instead of romantic scenes or duet songs.
For Allu Arjun, it would also be a refreshing change. After films like Pushpa, and with Raaka also expected to feature multiple female leads, a heroine-less action film would present him in a completely different avatar.
Of course, the makers have not officially confirmed these reports. If the rumor turns out to be true, AA23 could become one of the rare big-star Telugu films to completely avoid the usual romance formula.
