Allu Arjun’s father Allu Aravind recently made headlines with his statements at the South India Film Festival. While speaking at the Film Festival in Hyderabad, he said that due to the more diverse and culturally resonant storytelling, South Indian films, especially the dubbed ones, become highly successful in the Hindi-speaking belt of India.

He then went on to criticize the Hindi Film Industry, saying that while their films represent broader cultural aspects, Hindi Cinema often remains stuck between Bandra and Juhu, due to which it fails to resonate with the hearts and minds of the common man. He based his statement on the fact that most of the cast, as well as the directors, are born and brought up in Bandra and Juhu, which limits their vision to those areas, failing to connect with the rest of India.
His statement resonated with the current box office trends, where South Indian films like RRR, Pushpa: The Rise, etc. have succeeded in capturing the love of the whole nation, while Bollywood movies like The Archies, have been decemated.

While somewhat true, his remarks are also a very big generalization of the Hindi Cinema, as the industry has had its share of grassroots movies resonating with the public. It was the Hindi Film Industry that made movies like Lagaan, Gadar, Paan Singh Tomar, and many more, enough to break this generalization.
The Hindi Film Industry, while having its own flaws, and some pretty big ones at that, can’t be generalized on one statement. The industry still produces many gems, and when those movies do resonate, they are often shown ample love by the public.
