Blockbusters and super hits have been few and far between for Tollywood in the recent past and the same trend is repeating itself now, going by this weekend’s box office trends.
Devara, which is in its second-week run at the box office posted ordinary numbers on Friday(2nd Friday for the film). Other new releases this week – notably Swag pulled up very ordinary numbers.
Swag looked to be an out-of-bound film and finding an audience was anyway going to be tough. The film is surviving in the urbane pockets while the other areas are nearly washed out.
There’s another film Ramnagar Bunny(Social media troll star Chandrahas’s film) and it too has gone nowhere in terms of box office returns.
Sathyam Sundaram too is stuttering at the box office and that’s understandable, given that it’s a dubbing film.
By the looks of it, the dry days are rather back for Tollywood after Devara is nearly done with its mainstream run. And the wait to see housefulls gets that much longer till another star film or a critically acclaimed one hits the big screens.
We have Vishwak Sen’s Mechanic Rocky and Lucky Bhaskar arriving on 31 October and we shall see if either of them do the trick at the box office.
