Kiran Abbavaram’s Chennai Love Story witnessed strong occupancy over the weekend and is poised to emerge as a big hit. The film has also received a lot of praise for Sri Gouri Priya’s performance. Many viewers feel she is the emotional heart of the film.
However, one complaint has been repeated by many viewers.
The first half has been widely appreciated for its light-hearted narration, humor, and the chemistry between the lead pair. But the second half has received extreme mixed reactions. Many felt the film lost its pace after the interval, the emotional scenes were not as effective as expected, and the lengthy climax reduced the overall impact.
Director Ravi Namburi has now responded to those complaints.
In a post-release interview, he revealed that Chennai Love Story was originally much longer. According to him, the team had nearly four-and-a-half hours of footage, and many scenes were removed during editing to bring the film down to a suitable theatrical runtime.
The director believes many of the complaints about the second half might not have come up if those scenes had remained in the film. However, he said the cuts were necessary to make the film suitable for a theatrical release.
His comments have now sparked an interesting discussion.
Did the editing make the film sharper, or did it remove important emotional scenes that could have made the second half more satisfying?
Unless the makers release an extended version in the future, audiences may never know the answer.
For now, Chennai Love Story has connected well with both family audiences and youngsters, becoming another success for Kiran Abbavaram.
Produced by SKN, with Sai Rajesh providing the story, the film has also benefited from Mani Sharma’s music. While the songs may not have become chartbusters, his background score has received praise for adding depth and emotion to several key scenes.
Sometimes less is more. But according to director Ravi Namburi, in the case of Chennai Love Story, keeping a little more of the original footage might have made the film even better.
