As the OTT industry has risen as a parallel entertainment sector, its benefits and drawbacks for the Telugu film industry have been deeply discussed by various industry producers.
While the ongoing debate about how OTT impacts mainstream theaters continues, senior and calculated producer Daggubati Suresh Babu proposes a unique strategy to boost theater attendance.
Suresh Babu suggests reducing weekday ticket prices to Rs. 150 or less, and increasing weekend prices to Rs. 250 or more. He strongly believes in providing audiences with options for different rates based on their viewing preferences.
However, this notion faces opposition from movie fans. They argue that most people have limited time on weekdays, leading to lower collections. Increasing prices on weekends, when footfalls are higher, appears counterproductive and could discourage theater visits due to high rates.
They also question how feasible it is for people to find time for discounted weekday movie screenings in their busy lives.
While their perspective is valid, it’s clear that affordable ticket prices, whether on weekdays or weekends, are essential to sustain the theater system. Unfortunately, controlling this aspect is challenging, and these debates often serve as mere time pass arguments.
