Yash’s Toxic has received just ½ star from Mahesh Babu’s son Gautam Ghattamaneni on Letterboxd. Many fans recently discovered that he has a Letterboxd account, and even more shocking are his ratings. His Toxic rating may look harsh, especially given the hype around the film and Yash’s pan-India popularity.
But Gautam’s Letterboxd ratings show that he does not rate films simply based on star power, hype, or popularity. His film diary suggests that he is a genuine cinephile who watches cinema from different industries, genres, and time periods.
What makes his ratings even more interesting is how he rates his father Mahesh Babu’s films. There seems to be very little fan bias. Pokiri and Nenokkadine appear to be Gautam’s favourite Mahesh Babu films, with both receiving 5 stars. Athadu has received 4.5 stars, while Okkadu and Murari have received 4 stars each.
At the same time, Gautam has not given his father special treatment when he disliked a film. Nijam and Vamsi received 2 stars each, while Brahmotsavam got just 1 star.
His choices are not limited to Telugu cinema. He has given 5 stars to Sholay, Project Hail Mary, Knives Out, and Jersey. Recent films The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day have received 4.5 stars.
His love for Indian cinema is also clear. Baahubali 2 has received 5 stars, while Pelli Choopulu got 4.5 stars. Eega received 4 stars, while Sita Ramam got 4.5 stars. Dhurandhar 1 got 4 stars, but Dhurandhar 2 got just 3 stars from Gautam. At the other end, Liger also got ½ star, while Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 AD received 2.5 stars.
Some fans are joking that Gautam should work for a professional film website because his ratings look interesting, honest, and genuine rather than typical fan ratings.
It certainly gives the impression that Gautam watches films as a movie lover first and Mahesh Babu’s son second.
And for now, Toxic is firmly among the films he liked the least, with just ½ star.
