Lenin Slows Down at BO? Can It Survive The Odyssey Storm?

Akhil Akkineni’s Lenin surprised many by performing much better than expected during its opening weekend. Despite opening to mixed reviews, the film collected strongly and recovered a major chunk of its theatrical business within just three days.

Monday was equally encouraging. The film reportedly grossed around Rs. 5 crore worldwide, raising hopes that it would comfortably enter the profit zone during the weekdays. With no major Telugu release arriving this week, Lenin appeared to have a clear runway.

However, the trend has changed over the last two days. Collections dropped on Tuesday and slipped further on Wednesday. Day 6 is estimated to have brought in around Rs. 3 crore worldwide gross, indicating that the initial momentum has slowed.

There is no reason to panic yet. Weekday drops are natural after a strong opening weekend. More importantly, Lenin has already established itself as Akhil‘s long-awaited commercial comeback, with breakeven already achieved in several territories. The question now is no longer whether the film will become a success, but how big that success can be.

That challenge begins this weekend. Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is arriving with massive hype and exceptional advance bookings across multiplexes. The Hollywood epic is expected to dominate premium screens and urban centres such as Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai, where English films enjoy a loyal audience.

Lenin’s biggest strength, however, has been its solid performance in B and C centres. If it continues to attract family audiences and the mass belt while holding reasonably well in cities, it has every chance of entering the profit zone in all territories and graduating from a hit to a superhit.

The next three days will be crucial. If Lenin can withstand the impact of The Odyssey and post another strong weekend, Akhil Akkineni’s long-awaited comeback could turn into the blockbuster he has been waiting for for more than a decade.
