One interesting angle around Megastar Chiranjeevi’s recent filmography is something fans have quietly discussed for years now: the absence of a truly iconic background score that stays in public memory long after the film leaves theatres.
After his comeback with Khaidi No. 150 in 2017, Chiranjeevi saw both highs and lows at the box office. Films like Waltair Veerayya and Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu emerged as big blockbusters, while several others either underperformed or failed to meet expectations.
However, across this phase, one aspect many fans feel has been missing is a signature musical identity through powerful background music.
Modern commercial cinema increasingly depends on BGM as an emotional engine. A strong score not only elevates hero elevation moments and action sequences but also extends a film’s cultural shelf life. Today, fan edits, social media reels, and viral mass moments are often driven as much by music as by visuals.
The best example is Nandamuri Balakrishna’s recent phase. Even films that received mixed responses benefited enormously from impactful background scores. Akhanda became a phenomenon partly because of its thunderous sound design and musical elevation. Similarly, Daaku Maharaaj generated discussion around its score, with portions even finding life beyond the film through fan-made edits and social media content.
Interestingly, composer Thaman stood behind those scores and because of this many even started calling him Nandamuri Thaman.
Now, Chiranjeevi is reuniting with Bobby Kolli for Mega158 after the success of Waltair Veerayya, and Thaman has officially been signed to compose both songs and the background score.
This marks Thaman’s second collaboration with Chiranjeevi after GodFather. However, many fans felt GodFather did not deliver a memorable musical impact.
That is why expectations around Mega158 are high but also skeptical.
Thaman already shares a strong working equation with Bobby Kolli, and over the years, he has built a reputation for delivering aggressive, crowd-pleasing theatrical scores tailored for star heroes. His ability to create repeat-value hero themes has become one of his biggest strengths.
For Chiranjeevi fans specifically, the excitement goes beyond songs.
The bigger curiosity is whether Thaman can finally give Megastar that signature “theatre high” musical identity fans feel has been missing in recent years. A theme that instantly triggers whistles, fan edits, and emotional connection.
Will Thaman cook Mega158 the way he usually does in Balakrishna films?
Because sometimes, one iconic background score can become bigger than the scenes themselves. Mega158 may be carrying exactly that opportunity.
