OTT Shock: Just One Week After Theaters? Unacceptable

Raj Tarun in Paanch Minar film scene

In the film industry, many distributors have recently started expressing frustration about the four-week gap between theatrical release and OTT release. They believe that when a movie arrives on a streaming platform within a month, the theatre business suffers.

However, producers argue that the current theatre situation is unpredictable, and releasing early on OTT helps them recover their investment quickly. Even though the industry has slowly adjusted to this trend, releasing a movie after just one week is shocking and totally unacceptable, no matter how big a flop the film was in the theaters.

This is exactly what happened with Raj Tarun’s latest film Paanch Minar. The film released only last Friday, and within a week, it suddenly appeared on Amazon Prime. The movie received not-so-bad talk and failed to sustain momentum in theatres. Still, the extremely short gap shocked audiences and trade analysts.

Raj Tarun’s market has been unstable for a long time. Multiple disasters have created distance between him and the audience. He has also tried OTT projects earlier, but those attempts did not help his career either.

Paanch Minar, a crime comedy thriller with a simple storyline, was considered better compared to his previous films. But that feedback did not translate into ticket sales. Because of that, many people are questioning the purpose of giving the film a theatrical release when the OTT launch was already planned so quickly.

Raj Tarun now has another challenge. The new generation of young actors is moving forward with strong planning and successful film choices. Actors like Naveen Polishetty and Kiran Abbavaram have already built solid momentum, and even Thiruveer is trying to make a mark with occasional hits.

Compared to them, Raj Tarun has fallen far behind. To make a true comeback, he needs a strong blockbuster, which as of now looks very tough. He started his career with hits like Uyyala Jampala and Kumari 21F, but after that he lost track. He also fell into unnecessary controversies which cost his career a lot.

For now, Paanch Minar’s early OTT release reflects both the weak performance of the film and the current reality of his career phase.
