418, the Telugu horror-thriller presented by Prashanth Neel, was supposed to release on July 31, but that date has already passed. The film is facing trouble with the censor board.
Directed by Kirtan Nadagouda, who worked with Prashanth Neel on the KGF films, 418 is produced by Mythri Movie Makers. The film stars Surya Raj, Charan Lakkaraju, and Preethi Pagadala.
According to reports, the CBFC Revision Committee has rejected the film’s clearance request multiple times. The reported reason is its excessive horror content and intense scenes.
This has left many people confused. After all, 418 is a horror film. If a horror movie is being stopped for showing too much horror, what exactly is expected from it? Karan Johar type romance?
The issue has now started a debate on social media about how horror films are treated in India.
Many users are questioning the consistency of the certification process. They point out that some A-rated films with extreme violence have been cleared, while 418 is reportedly facing repeated objections for delivering the kind of content expected from a horror film.
One social media user wrote, “We live in a country where we have A-rated movies with grotesque violence. Marco had a scene where an infant was ripped out of a mother’s belly. Sex comedies with the most horrible, perverted themes. Masti 4 had animals dry humping Riteish Deshmukh. WHAT ARE WE DOING HERE?”
The argument is simple. If the content is too intense for a UA certificate, give 418 an A certificate and let adult audiences decide.
Interestingly, the censor trouble is also creating curiosity around the film. Some moviegoers now feel that if 418 has reportedly unsettled the censor authorities so much, it could be a genuinely hardcore horror experience. That could actually become an unexpected advantage for the film. Horror movies need curiosity, fear, and mystery before release.
For now, 418 remains stuck in certification trouble. Its July 31 release is gone, the trailer had faced delays earlier, and there is still no confirmed release date as of early September.
