According to reports from Kollywood, Superstar Rajinikanth is personally writing his autobiography, and it could eventually pave the way for an official biopic.
Rajinikanth’s journey is nothing short of inspiring.
Born as Shivaji Rao Gaikwad, he worked as a bus conductor in Bengaluru before entering films and becoming one of the biggest stars in Indian cinema. His rise from an ordinary man to a cultural icon has inspired millions.
Adding more weight to the reports, Rajinikanth‘s daughter, Soundarya Rajinikanth, recently confirmed that the book will reveal many personal and professional experiences that Rajinikanth has never shared publicly.
Several books have already been written about Rajinikanth, including Rajinikanth: The Definitive Biography. But this one has created more curiosity because it will tell his story in his own words. That has naturally sparked talk about a biopic.
However, there is another side to the discussion.
Unlike many stars who have kept their lives private, Rajinikanth’s journey is already well known. His days as a bus conductor, his entry into films, his spiritual beliefs, health struggles, and career highs and lows have all been widely covered through interviews, books, documentaries, and media reports.
That raises an important question. Is there enough new material for a full-length biopic?
Unless the autobiography reveals unknown stories and hidden chapters of his life, audiences may feel they are watching events they already know. Simply recreating famous moments may not be enough to excite viewers.
There is another concern as well. Since Rajinikanth is writing the book himself, it may naturally focus more on his achievements than on controversies, failures, regrets, or difficult phases. Today’s audiences usually prefer biopics that show both the strengths and weaknesses of their subjects.
Rajinikanth’s experience with the 2002 film Baba also comes to mind. The film, based on a story written by Rajinikanth himself, carried huge expectations but ended up as a disaster which proves that personal conviction alone does not always result in compelling cinema.
Ultimately, a Rajinikanth biopic will succeed only if it offers something new, honest, and emotionally engaging beyond the story that fans already know.
