Vijay Sethupathi and Puri Jagannadh joined forces for the first time for an action and emotional drama Slum Dog. The makers began the promotions by launching the film’s teaser.
Puri Jagannadh spoke emotionally about making his first Tamil film and credited Vijay Sethupathi for making the project possible. “An actor of his caliber trusting my story and agreeing to do this film means a lot to me. Every day he comes to the set like a newcomer eager to perform. There is no arrogance in him. It’s truly inspiring. Audiences will see a very powerful and unique version of Vijay Sethupathi in this film.”
One of the most intriguing revelations from the event was Puri’s statement that Slum Dog is inspired by two real-life incidents. “There is real emotion in this film. We see beggars every day, but rarely think about the stories behind them. There are countless untold emotions and struggles hidden in those lives. I believe Gen Z is more disciplined and emotionally aware than previous generations. This movie will connect strongly with them, but I also want families to watch it together.”
Vijay Sethupathi revealed that his confidence in the project stemmed largely from the conviction with which Puri narrated it. He admitted that the story’s premise was unusual, but Puri’s belief in the material made him instantly confident about taking it up. He described the director as someone whose imagination never rests.
Sharing his expectations, Vijay called Slum Dog a film driven by strong emotions, gripping action, and meaningful storytelling. Having witnessed the director’s commitment throughout the process, he expressed confidence that the film would connect with audiences across different languages and regions.
