Thaman’s Loose Talk on Stage with Young Hero & Heroine

Thaman at Band Melam launch

Band Melam, starring Court fame Harsh Roshan and Sridevi as the lead pair, is gearing up for release on March 13. The film is produced under the Kona Film Corporation banner by Kona Venkat. The movie recently unveiled its teaser at a launch event attended by music director Thaman and actor Sivaji as chief guests.

Speaking at the event, Thaman expressed gratitude toward Kona Venkat. He said his career reached a strong phase after Dookudu and credited Kona for being a major support. Thaman also said that watching the young lead pair reminded him of the days of Nuvve Kavali.

However, during his speech, Thaman made a lighthearted comment that did not sit well with many. Addressing the young lead pair, he jokingly said, “Make sure your chemistry does not turn into physics.” The comment indirectly suggested physical intimacy, which left the young actors visibly embarrassed. Noticing the reaction from both the audience and the two young actors, Thaman tried to lighten the situation further by saying in a laughing tone, “Do not troll me, I am a 5th class failure, I do not know anything about zoology.”

While it appeared to be a joke without bad intention, many felt such remarks do not suit someone of Thaman’s stature. He is one of the most respected and popular music directors in the industry. The lead actors are still young, and a large section of the audience looks up to them as role models. Even if meant in a jovial manner, such talk on a public stage can create unnecessary discomfort.

Public platforms demand a certain level of restraint, and celebrities should be mindful of context and setting while speaking.
