The Central government had just allocated 5.63 Crore for Vishakapatnam Metro Rail Project in its budget but that is not stopping the Mega Project which requires an investment of Rs 200 to 220 crore per km to complete. The soil testing survey for the project will begin next week by a Jaipur-based geotechnical engineering consultancy firm.
On the other side, the topography, traffic and household surveys are being conducted at a brisk pace. The soil testing survey will take one month. The topographic, traffic and household surveys are almost complete.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation which is entrusted the work of preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) will arrive in the city and they are expected to submit the DPR by June. According to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, the Center will have to bear the total expenses of Vijayawada and Vishakapatnam Metro Prpojects.
