It took Rajinikanth years and finally a Basha to establish him as a star in Telugu. From then on with film after film he has taken his position to new level in Telugu cinema as a star. In 2010 though, he created box office wonder when he combined with director Shankar for the second time in Robo.
Rajinikanth with Robo took on our stars head on and delivered the biggest hit of the year in Telugu. In fact at that time if it wasn’t for already existing Magadheera, the Rajini starrer would have been an Industry Hit in Telugu. It took almost one more year to cross that figure by a Telugu star.
Times have changed now and the Telugu film market has grown by leaps and bounds. Telugu stars have delivered multiple blockbusters crossing the figure of Robo and during the same time various Tamil stars too have given good openings with decent talk. In between some films that the star has been associated with have seen massive failures that gave rise to talk that Robo might have been fluke in Telugu or may be it director Shankar’s magic in Telugu rather than the star.
With Lingaa there are so such thrills attached like a Robo and it comes as a typical Rajini masala venture. Even the director is not that hot in market. Yet the star has managed record breaking pre release business. Will he now repeat the record breaking feat post release as well?
