Roja’s Turn? Arrest Imminent?

Aadudham Andhra scam

The investigation into the Aadudham Andhra scam that took place during the YSRCP government’s tenure has reached its final stage. The Vigilance Department is set to submit its detailed report to the DGP today, outlining key findings from months of inquiry. Allegations of large-scale corruption have surrounded the Aadudham Andhra programme, which was launched with a budget of Rs 119 crore.

The controversy intensified when several sportspersons and association representatives accused the former leadership of the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh of severe financial mismanagement.

Complaints pointed to irregularities in distributing prize money and the supply of substandard sports kits and accessories. The matter gained attention after RD Prasad, a former national Kabaddi player and CEO of the Atya-Patya Association, lodged a complaint with the Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department.

Investigators are said to have identified significant misuse of funds and irregularities in procurement processes. The inquiry looked closely at fund allocations, supply contracts, and the involvement of top officials.

The final decision-making power during the programme reportedly rested with the then Sports Minister Roja and the then SAAP Chairman Byreddy Siddharth Reddy. The government will now decide on possible action against those found responsible.

Speculation is high over whether Roja could face arrest or receive leniency due to her gender. Known for her outspoken remarks over the last five years, she has recently returned to her earlier combative style.

While leaders like Kodali Nani and Vallabhaneni Vamsi have kept a low profile, Roja remains defiant, prompting TDP and Janasena supporters to urge their leadership to take a firm stand.

However, political observers note that those in power often weigh the potential sympathy factor before arresting a female leader. In Roja’s case, many believe such considerations should not apply. Byreddy Siddharth Reddy, who has also drawn criticism for his conduct over the years, may face similar consequences if the leadership chooses to proceed with arrests.
