AP MPTC, ZPTC Election Counting Begins Across 365 Centres

AP MPTC ZPTC election vote counting begins

Counting of votes for the Andhra Pradesh MPTC and ZPTC elections began at 8 AM on Saturday, November 7, across the state. The results will determine the fate of 21,012 candidates who contested the rural local body elections.

The counting process began with postal ballots, followed by votes cast through ballot papers. Officials will separate, sort and bundle the ballots before counting them in the presence of candidates’ authorised agents.

The elections covered 582 Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) seats and 7,767 Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) seats. Of these, 77 ZPTC and 2,051 MPTC positions had already been decided unanimously.

Polling was held on November 5, while voting in some cyclone-affected areas and repolling at seven polling stations took place on November 6. The State Election Commission reported an overall voter turnout of 70.72 per cent.

According to State Election Commissioner Anil Chandra Punetha, counting arrangements have been made at 365 centres across Andhra Pradesh, with 9,062 counting tables established to handle the ballot papers.

Around 28,500 counting assistants and other personnel, along with supervisors, have been assigned to the process. Half of the counting tables have been allocated to MPTC votes and the remaining half to ZPTC votes.

Police have established a three-tier security system at counting centres. CCTV cameras, drones and body-worn cameras are being used to monitor sensitive locations and maintain security during the counting process.

The State Election Commission has instructed district authorities to complete counting as early as possible, with results expected to emerge throughout Saturday. Official winners will be declared after the required counting and verification procedures.

The results are politically significant for the ruling TDP-JanaSena-BJP alliance and the opposition YSRCP, following their recent contest in the municipal elections.

For the ruling alliance, the results will indicate its electoral support in rural Andhra Pradesh, while the YSRCP will be looking to assess its position across the Mandal Parishads and Zilla Parishads.

The final political picture will become clear as the State Election Commission declares the constituency-wise results.
