Bloodless Power Transition in Tamil Nadu and Challenges FurtherThe inevitable has happened in Tamil Politics. Finally, Jayalalithaa’s Close aide, Sasikala bulldozed O Paneerselvam and instated herself as the Chief Minister. This development has come in just Two months after Jayalalithaa’s Demise. Even though it is an inevitable event, the sudden happening came as a surprise to everyone.

Paneerselavam has got a good name in the people after he got the Jallikattu Ordinance. He even attended several official programs on Sunday morning as the Chief Minister giving an impression to the people that he is not bothered about what is being said in media but then all of sudden, everything changed in the afternoon as he rushed to Poes Garden to meet Sasikala.

MLAs who were called for the Legislative Party meeting were also not informed about what is the agenda of the meeting. Within minutes, everything happened as it was informed to media that Sasikala was elected as the leader and will be the next Chief Minister. The irony is that Sasikala went on to say that it was Paneer who insisted her to take up the post.

It is a classic case of blackmail by Sasikala without taking MLAs or Paneerselvam into confidence. But luckily for her, it is a bloodless transition. About 4 years tenure remaining for AIADMK, Sasikala will face a challenge in keeping the pack together and become a credible face to Tamil people by the next elections. Not the easiest one can easily say especially after she has no confidence even among the AIADMK cadre.
