Chevireddy’s Strange Petition: 1st Time In Court

Chevireddy opposes bail in AP liquor case

For the first time in court history, AP liquor scam accused Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy filed a petition in the AP High Court asking that bail not be granted to his co-accused. It is a rare legal move where one accused actively challenges the freedom of others in the same case.

In this case, AP Beverages Corporation Limited then MD Donthi Vasudeva Reddy and excise department official D Venkatasatyaprasad approached the court for anticipatory bail. Instead of supporting them, Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy stepped in to seek cancellation of their bail petitions.

The High Court said it would examine whether the petition is legally valid. Here’s a situation where where an accused person is trying to block bail from within the same case, something the bench noted had not happened before.

The court also said it would decide if such petitions can even be entertained. IT has to be noted that the matter has now been postponed, with the next hearing scheduled for December 2.

The AP liquor case has seen several twists, but this one stands apart. High Court itself appeared puzzled by the move and why it attracted sharp attention inside the courtroom.

Questions are now rising about Chevireddy’s motives and how this action will affect the case. One is left wondering if this legal step helps the prosecution, weakens it, or simply delays the process.
