The world’s oldest aircraft carrier, INS Viraat, in service with the Indian Navy was decommissioned at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai on Monday. Andhra Pradesh proposed turning it into a Museum and 5 Star Hotel but was taken back by the whopping 1000 Crore expenditure it involved.

The state government has proposed the central government and Indian Navy to execute the project on a partnership basis but then there is no response. “If Andhra Pradesh govt wants to convert Viraat into the museum, it will have to fund the project,” Indian Navy chief Admiral Sunil Lanba said the other day.
The legendary ship may head to the scrapyard if no buyer is found for the ship in four months. The other states which have initially shown interest on IN Viraat have also backed off. INS Viraat has spent 30 years in the Navy after 27 years in the Royal Navy.
