YSR Congress MLC Thota Trimurthulu is convicted in a 28 years old Dalit Tonsuring case. He was awarded 18+6 months jail term by a Special Court in Vishakhapatnam.
Thota is YSR Congress’s Mandapeta candidate. There is a possibility that this case will invite the ire of Dalits in the upcoming elections. But YSR Congress is not in mood to change him.

Technically, conviction over 2 years may lead to disqualification so, YSR Congress thinks there is no risk. But legal experts say there is yet another risk for Thota.
The 1955 Protection Of Civil Rights Act says the candidate can be disqualified even for small penalty and jail term in cases related to Untouchability. So, there is a danger of Thota getting disqualified.

If Jagan does not want to change Thota Trimurthulu, YSR Congress may have to field a dummy candidate who will the real candidate in case of the disqualification.
Meanwhile, Dalit Organisations are planning to approach the High Court demanding disqualification of the MLC.
