Rayalaseema is always a Reddy Stronghold. The area irrespective of the election trends elsewhere in the state, always had special support from Congress/YSR Congress.

In the 2014 elections where the YSR Congress lost, the party won 30 out of the total 52 seats in Rayalaseema. In the rest of the Andhra, the party managed to win 37 out of the 123 seats.

In the 2019 elections where the YSR Congress won, the party registered victory in a whopping 49 seats out of the total 52 seats in Rayalaseema.

Cut to the recent elections, the situation is completely alarming for Jagan. The party is reduced to just seven out of the 52 seats in Seema.

This is the reason why the YSR Congress fell to the third position below Janasena.

Jagan’s own district, Kadapa also ended up as a nightmare for Jagan.

In 2014, TDP managed to win only one seat here despite being in power in the state. In 2019, it drew a blank in the district. Cut to now, the YSR Congress is left only with three seats.

Even Jagan’s majority in Pulivendula was reduced this time.

Every Minister from Rayalaseema except for Peddireddy lost. Peddireddy escaped defeat by a mere 6K votes.

When it comes to the Parliament seats, YSR Congress won two seats – Rajampet and Tirupati thanks to the BJP candidates. In Kadapa, the YSR Congress almost averted the danger of another upset.

What could be the reason for this humiliating defeat?

The impact of the alliances is negligible in this area due to the caste composition and also because of the strengths of the other parties.

The contest here is only between TDP and YSR Congress.

In fact, the alliance with the BJP may have acted counter-productive in some Muslim-dominated areas because of the Muslim Reservations cancelation issue.

So, there is either an overwhelming mandate in favor of TDP or there is a massive anti-Jagan wave even in Rayalaseema. Or it can be both.

TDP also worked hard in the area for the last five years. While YSR Congress MLAs were blinded by power, TDP leaders had their ears to the ground and worked for the people.

We have seen the YSR Congress going after Chandrababu’s Kuppam with cash and muscle. Chandrababu did not take any chances and made frequent trips to Kuppam.

The candidate selection is also good by Chandrababu Naidu this time. Hardworking candidates were put up everywhere.

For instance, Challa Babu put up a brave fight against Peddireddy despite the latter’s power in Punganur. Babu almost came close to winning but Peddireddy escaped by a whisker.

In Chandragiri, Pulivarthi Nani put up an exemplary fight against the Chevireddy family and captured the YSR Congress bastion.

We have seen the YSR Congress cadre pelting stones at Chandrababu Naidu in Angallu.

YSR Congress leaders like Roja, Biyyapu Madhusudhan Reddy, Thopudurthi Prakash Reddy, and Kethireddy Pedda Reddy were completely high on power and lived in a different world away from the people and own cadre. The result is there to see and suffer.

Chandrababu Naidu’s arrest also played a very crucial role in the wave.

Rayalaseema people have seen the wave in favor of TDP and the highheadedness of the YSR Congress helped them make an easy choice. They finally believed they could not vote YSR Congress and stay away from Development. So, they ousted the YSR Congress from the region.

Jagan did nothing for the region and several industries that came to the region like Kia Motors and those at Sri City made the people’s decision easy.

If Jagan Mohan Reddy lives an illusion about EVM Tampering, he will ignore the damage that happened in his backyard. That will only lead to his decimation and YSR Congress will continue to be in the number three position in AP Politics.
