The DMK government in Tamil Nadu blamed Vijay for poor planning and for delaying the meeting, accusing him of focusing more on crowd numbers than safety. The incident gave the ruling party enough ground to attack him politically.
Vijay’s response came three days after the tragedy. His delayed statement in a video drew more criticism from DMK leaders, who questioned his leadership and responsibility during the event.
With the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections approaching, DMK has been working to limit TVK’s rise and protect its voter base. Vijay, however, took the legal route, urging the Supreme Court to move the case to the CBI for an impartial investigation.
