TN High Court Says No CBI Inquiry: Karur Stampede

Vijay Karur stampede court ruling

Days after the Karur stampede that claimed 39 lives of fans and followers of Thalapathy Vijay, the Tamil Nadu High Court delivered a key judgement.

The Court dismissed pleas seeking a CBI probe into the tragedy. It ruled that demanding such an inquiry at the preliminary stage was unnecessary. The judges reminded petitioners that courts should not become political battlegrounds.

The Karur tragedy has already triggered heated political exchanges in Tamil Nadu. The ruling DMK alleged that the stampede could have been avoided with better planning. They also argued that no permissions were given for such a massive gathering.

DMK leaders blamed TVK for the tragedy, saying Vijay used the event to showcase his political strength. In contrast, Vijay and his team expressed deep sorrow, calling it an unfortunate accident.

With the High Court’s ruling, political analysts believe Vijay has secured temporary relief. However, they point out that his three-day silence before responding to the tragedy will remain a dark mark in his political journey. They warn that Tamil voters will not easily forget the incident.
