Politics is a strange game in Tamil Nadu. The Tamil voters are used to leaders like MGR, Jayalalitha, Karunanidhi all of whom have had multiple relationships. Now the Vijay-Trish public appearance at a wedding is getting widespread coverage including in national media.
His opponents were waiting for Vijay to take a wrong step. As if the Karur stampede was not enough, his wife of decades Sangeetha filed for divorce and alleged him of having an extra-marital affair.
Now, Vijay-Trish are all over media from North to South for stepping out of the same car and attending a wedding reception after twinning with each other in colour beige.
Of course, the couple looks adorable. But will it have political repercussions remains to be seen. Some hard-core fans of Thalapathy Vijay feel their chief has betrayed the marriage system.
But Tamil Nadu is used to such stories. The vote bank of Vijay may not get affected by this particular public appearance. In fact, Vijay appears to have decided to come clean prior to Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu to ensure smooth elections. Tamil Nadu political analysts feel Thalapathy will get all the votes meant for him. At least Vijay will be free of political banter, they opine.
