
A Dalit wedding in Lavera village, Ajmer district, became a symbol of defiance against caste discrimination on January 21, 2025.
Lokesh Bakoliya, the groom, rode a horse during the procession, a practice that sometimes faces opposition in rural areas.

Fearing backlash from upper-caste locals, the bride’s father, Narayan Khorwal, requested police protection. In response, around 400 police personnel were deployed to ensure the procession reached Narayan’s house safely.
Thankfully, no incidents were reported. A police official said, “The security was a precautionary step to prevent any trouble. Everything went smoothly.”

Narayan explained why he asked for protection: “Our community was afraid of opposition. But today’s youth are educated and stand against such discrimination.”
This event highlights ongoing challenges faced by marginalized communities in rural India. While equality is guaranteed by the Constitution, traditional prejudices still exist in some areas.

The peaceful procession was a strong message against caste-based discrimination and showed the importance of standing up for one’s rights.
