KL Rahul’s failure to attract a bid in the Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20 auction came as a surprise to many cricket fans. The Karnataka star entered the auction with a base price of Rs 2 lakh. Despite his reputation and recent form, no franchise placed a bid for him.
The development looked even more unexpected because Rahul enjoyed another impressive IPL season. He also continues to be a key member of India’s ODI setup. His recent performances suggested there would be strong interest from teams in the state league.
During the auction, franchises reportedly sought clarity about Rahul’s availability for the tournament. They were informed that he would not be available for the 2026 season because of his international commitments with Team India. That information is believed to have influenced the bidding process.
While Rahul remained unsold, senior Karnataka cricketers Karun Nair and Manish Pandey secured significant bids. Devdutt Padikkal and Prasidh Krishna also found teams, although their auction values were impacted by the possibility of national team duties.
Rahul’s unsold status appears to be linked more to his availability than his cricketing ability. Even so, seeing a player of his stature go without a single bid in Karnataka’s premier T20 competition has become a major talking point among fans and observers.
