A Mumbai auto driver has stunned many by earning an impressive ₹5–8 lakh per month, that too not through driving, but with a simple bag-keeping service outside the US Consulate.
The story was shared by Rahul Rupani, a product leader at Lenskart, on LinkedIn, where it went viral for showcasing grassroots entrepreneurship without the aid of technology, degrees, or funding.
The consulate doesn’t allow bags inside, and visitors are often left scrambling to find a place to leave their belongings.
Spotting this gap, the driver began offering to securely store bags for ₹1,000 per customer. With an estimated 20–30 customers daily, his earnings easily range between ₹20,000 to ₹30,000 a day.
Interestingly, he doesn’t actually store all the bags in his auto. Rupani explained that the auto acts only as the first point of contact. The driver has partnered with a local police officer who owns a nearby locker facility.
The bags are transferred there, ensuring legal and secure handling, while the auto remains parked outside the consulate as a steady funnel for customers.
This innovative yet low-tech solution is a prime example of how observing a recurring problem and responding with a practical fix can lead to impressive financial success.
It has sparked admiration online, not just for the amount earned, but for the sheer ingenuity behind the hustle. No apps, no investors, just a good understanding of human needs and street-smart thinking.
