Bengaluru has emerged as the city with the highest number of extra-marital affairs in India. According to a recent survey by Gleeden, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Pune followed closely. The study also revealed that rising extra-marital relationships are leading to more divorces and growing marital discord among couples.
Gleeden’s findings suggest that such affairs are most common among IT professionals and doctors. Experts say that limited family time and neglecting personal relationships are key factors behind this growing trend.
Psychologists have warned that this behaviour is pushing many individuals into emotional distress and loneliness. The lack of communication and time between partners is also worsening the problem.
Meanwhile, another study by Ashley Madison showed that Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu topped the list of rural regions with the most extra-marital affairs, followed by Delhi. Tier-2 city Jaipur also appeared among the leading areas.
Interestingly, Mumbai did not make it to the top 20 list in 2025, which came as a surprise to many.
Since the Government of India decriminalised adultery in 2018, the number of such cases appears to have increased. Gleeden, an app designed for extra-marital connections, reflects how changing social attitudes and dynamics are influencing modern relationships in India.
