Chetan Bhagat, known for bestsellers like Five Point Someone and One Indian Girl, is back with a new release. After a 10-year break, the author returns with 2 Years: My Messed-Up Love Story.
The announcement came through social media, and pre-orders are already live. Fans have shown both excitement and concern about the story’s theme and direction.
The plot follows a 33-year-old Punjabi man and a 21-year-old Jain girl. He is divorced; she’s never had a boyfriend. Despite their differences, they can’t stay away from each other.
Bhagat describes the book as funny, emotional, and thought-provoking. At its heart, it explores a question many young Indians face—how do you know if someone is “the one”?
However, reactions are mixed. Some readers find the premise uncomfortable due to the age gap. Critics say it feels more like a personal fantasy than a relatable love story.
Many feel Bhagat’s storytelling peaked with Five Point Someone and has become more film-like since. Some even say it seems he’s writing Bollywood scripts instead of novels now.
Speculation about a film adaptation is already swirling. Names like Janhvi Kapoor, Ananya Panday, Siddharth Malhotra, and Varun Dhawan are being thrown around as potential leads.
Others criticise the author for being out of touch, urging him to evolve beyond such dated romantic plots. Still, curiosity remains about what comes next—and how soon it will hit the big screen.
Delighted to share with you the title and cover of my new book: 12 Years: my messed-up love story!
