Prabhas’ Fauzi, directed by Sita Ramam fame Hanu Raghavapudi, continues to be one of the most talked-about projects in Tollywood because it is not the usual commercial action masala film. The period action drama is currently being shot in Hyderabad, with Prabhas juggling both Fauzi and Spirit before taking a short break for a Europe vacation.
Now, a fresh piece of industry buzz has grabbed everyone’s attention.
According to reports, Mythri Movie Makers is mounting Fauzi on a staggering Rs. 500-600 crore budget, making it one of the costliest films of Prabhas‘ career. Though there is no official confirmation yet, the reported budget has become a hot topic of discussion in trade circles.
The reports also claim that the film will feature elaborate period sets, international-standard visual effects, and large-scale World War II sequences. Recently, the team recreated a massive 1940s Japanese Army camp at Ramoji Film City, indicating that the production values are indeed being given top priority.
But the budget also raises an important question.
Hanu Raghavapudi has never handled a project of this scale before. His biggest success, Sita Ramam, was appreciated for its emotional storytelling, romance, and strong writing rather than spectacle. Fauzi is therefore the biggest test of his career.
Can Hanu successfully combine his trademark emotional storytelling with World War II action, large-scale VFX, and pan-India expectations? Or will it become too overwhelming for him to handle? That remains the biggest question surrounding the project.
The pressure is equally high on Prabhas.
After the disastrous Raja Saab, he cannot afford another flop. While Spirit is generating enormous hype because of Vanga’s brand value, Fauzi remains the more unpredictable project. It has tremendous potential, but it also carries considerable risk because of its ambitious scale and the expectations attached to its reported budget.
If Hanu manages to balance emotion, romance, and spectacle, Fauzi could become one of the most unique films in Prabhas’ career. But if the emotional core does not work, even a Rs. 500-600 crore scale may not be enough.
There is also speculation that the makers are eyeing a December 3 release, although an official announcement is still awaited.
