Have you ever experienced sizing issues while buying clothes from a foreign brand because they have their standard designs according to their body types? Don’t worry; the days are not far when we will have Indian measurement sizes even in foreign brand clothes.
The Ministry of Textile in India has planned to launch a new initiative to use INDIAsize as a new standard to measure clothes. Textile Secretary Rachna Shah said this new standard will focus on Indian body types so that people can choose clothes according to their body type. At present, we use UK and US measurements like “small”, “medium”, and “large” sizes. However, as we know, Indian body types vary from those of people living in the US and UK, leading to many fitting issues.
Apart from the INDIAsize project, the GOI is also trying to increase our import business from 22 billion USD to 40-50 billion USD in the next 5 years. Shah also emphasized enhancing the export of our technical textiles from 2.5 billion USD to 10 billion USD since the textile market is also expected to gain a lot in the upcoming years. India can use this boost to gain an edge in the textile market.
