A horrific dowry-related crime has left Greater Noida in shock after a woman was set on fire by her husband and mother-in-law. A disturbing video showed her engulfed in flames, limping down the stairs before collapsing, leaving neighbours horrified.
The victim’s young son witnessed the brutality. Struggling through tears, he revealed, “They first put something on mumma. Then they slapped her before setting her on fire using a lighter.” His words have shaken the community and exposed the cruelty.
According to police, the incident took place at the family home. Neighbours rushed after hearing screams and informed the authorities. The woman was rushed to a hospital in Delhi but tragically died on the way, unable to survive the severe burns.
Relatives later said she had faced regular harassment and dowry demands. She had confided about abuse, but her suffering ended in tragedy. Her son’s account confirmed the extent of her ordeal and became key evidence in the investigation.
The husband and mother-in-law have been arrested, and police registered a case under dowry harassment and murder charges. Officials stated that further investigation is underway, and strict legal action will follow against those responsible.
The shocking video and the child’s testimony have sparked outrage. Women’s rights groups are demanding stronger law enforcement and more protection for vulnerable women, stressing how dowry-related crimes continue to destroy families and traumatise children.
This tragedy is a grim reminder that dowry still ruins lives, leaving behind shattered families and young children scarred by the horrors they witness at home. Society’s fight against this practice remains far from over.
