X, formerly Twitter, is witnessing widespread backlash after users criticised Elon Musk and the platform’s AI tool, Grok. The outrage followed incidents where individuals asked the AI to undress a woman’s image or recreate her in a bikini.
Grok allows users to generate imaginative visuals, but many are misusing this feature in disturbing ways. Several users have asked the AI to reimagine women, and even young girls, in innerwear or nude appearances.
The situation has become more alarming because the images used often belong to the women themselves. Photos shared online can be uploaded and misused by others through Grok without consent.
As the trend gained attention, many women stopped posting photographs or removed older images. To continue the misuse, some users began uploading fully clothed images of celebrities instead.
The controversy escalated further when a user uploaded an image of Indian goddesses Lakshmi, Saraswati, and Kali. The user reportedly asked Grok to depict them wearing bikinis, triggering severe outrage.
The act was widely condemned online and described as sick, disturbing, and deeply disrespectful. Many users expressed disbelief over such behaviour and demanded immediate action against the account involved.
Some users highlighted the hypocrisy surrounding the outrage. They pointed out that similar misuse involving real women and children did not receive the same level of attention earlier.
Several users labelled this misuse as a form of digital sexual assault. They argued that Elon Musk should be held accountable for allowing such content to be generated on the platform.
Others expressed anger over attempts to blame women for sharing their photos online. This victim blaming narrative has intensified criticism and added to the growing backlash around Grok.
In a digital-first era, AI tools have become increasingly powerful. Misuse of such technology raises serious concerns, and victims are being urged to report offending accounts and tighten app privacy settings.
