During the festival season in Hyderabad, many residents lock their homes to visit relatives or attend celebrations. Thieves often watch for such situations and look for empty houses during this time.
In the Medipally area, burglars took advantage of the situation and carried out multiple house thefts. In Chengicherla, they reportedly broke into around 12 houses in a single night.
The thieves arrived in a car and first surveyed the locality. They were reportedly carrying knives and moved swiftly between houses. Since most families were away, they managed to escape after stealing valuables, leaving residents worried and angry.
Following the incidents, affected families approached the police station and lodged complaints. Police teams launched an investigation, checked CCTV footage, and increased patrolling in the area to trace the suspects.
Such thefts tend to rise during festival periods. Police have advised people to secure their homes properly and inform neighbours before travelling, as basic precautions can help prevent these crimes.
