A disturbing incident reported from Hyderabad has once again brought the issue of women’s safety in public spaces into sharp focus.
A woman has alleged that she witnessed a man masturbating at the cycling track along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) on the morning of April 27. According to her viral video, the incident took place around 6:15 AM, a time when the track is usually busy with people jogging, cycling, and exercising.
In a video, the woman explained that she noticed the man masturbating. She said she confronted him, and when he tried to walk away, she followed him and questioned his actions. She also pointed out that she was simply out for a run, dressed in regular workout clothes, stressing that such behavior is unacceptable regardless of how someone is dressed.
What stood out in her statement was not just the incident itself, but the larger concern she raised. She spoke about how situations like this make even basic activities, like going for a morning run, feel unsafe for women. The issue is not just about one individual, but about the constant discomfort caused by unwanted attention in public spaces.
The incident has sparked wider discussion because Hyderabad is often presented as a relatively safe city. Initiatives like SHE Teams have been actively working to address harassment, handling thousands of cases through warnings, counselling, and legal action.
However, the ground reality can feel very different.
Addressing the issue, Cyberabad Commissioner Dr. Ramesh Reddy confirmed that the police are actively working to trace the accused. He stated that dedicated search teams have been deployed and efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the individual.
I’ve lived in Hyderabad for nearly 40 years.
This is NOT the Hyderabad I know.I have never witnessed such a disturbing, shameful reality here.
Watching this video of a young woman runner has deeply shaken me.
The most heartbreaking part?
She had to justify what she was wearing.… pic.twitter.com/UvJPBp12Mt— Ravi Prakash Official (@raviprakash_rtv) April 27, 2026
