Instagram’s expansion across devices shows no signs of slowing down. From phones and laptops to living room screens, social platforms are steadily reshaping content consumption and blurring the gap between casual scrolling and intentional viewing.
The latest move comes from Instagram launching its first dedicated TV app. The app allows users to stream Reels directly on larger screens using smart TVs, Fire TV, and Google Chromecast, extending short-form video beyond handheld devices.
According to Instagram head Adam Mosseri, the TV app offers a clean, full-screen Reels experience. It avoids clutter such as stories or traditional feeds, focusing purely on continuous video playback designed for bigger displays.
The rollout has started in the US and will expand to other countries soon. It follows a broader trend, with platforms like TikTok and YouTube Shorts already pushing short videos onto television screens.
Online reactions remain mixed. Some users welcome the option for shared viewing, while others worry about addictive algorithms entering family spaces and disrupting traditional viewing habits.
For Indian users, where Reels already command massive engagement alongside growing OTT usage, the move may boost creator reach. At the same time, it raises concerns about screen fatigue and shrinking attention spans as short-form content moves into every corner of daily life.
