With the evolving Indian mindset, there has been a significant shift in the attitudes of Indian people towards the LGBTQ community and homosexuality. People appear to be more accepting than ever before, and there have been many instances of individuals happily normalizing homosexuality. This marks a positive step toward a more progressive society.
One notable example of this progress occurred in Punjab, where a lesbian couple recently celebrated their marriage, but they also had to face hatred from a certain section of the community.
The news comes from Bathinda, Punjab, where a lesbian couple tied the knot on September 18, and the ceremony took place at Ghri Kaligidhhar Sahib Gurudwara. The marriage was conducted in the presence of the priests there. While it was considered a progressive step, it did offend some people who began demanding that the police take action, citing religious sentiments.
A Sikh committee has demanded an apology for the couple’s actions, sparking a controversy with some people supporting it and others opposing it. Clearly, our society still lacks an understanding of the LGBTQ community.
In my opinion, if a couple is willing to get married and it’s their choice, we shouldn’t stand in their way. Everyone has the right to love and marry whomever they choose, and it’s important to promote tolerance and acceptance in society.
