A self styled godman from Karnataka, Mallikarjun Mutya, is facing serious allegations under the POCSO Act. The law is meant to protect children from sexual offences. An FIR has been registered at Gogi police station in Shahapur taluk of Yadgir district.
The complaint was filed by the Child Development Project Officer. The Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights had earlier taken suo motu notice of the issue. The Commission also wrote to the Superintendent of Police seeking immediate action.
Police have begun a detailed investigation into the matter. Since the case involves a minor, officials are proceeding with caution. Statements are being recorded and relevant evidence is being examined.
Mallikarjun Mutya has denied all allegations made against him. He stated that he treated the minor like his own daughter. He also said that he will contest the case legally in court.
